Poertner, George A. (1 September 1901 - 29 October 1967)

Funeral services for George A. Poertner, 66, of Rt. 2 Neillsville who died here Sunday, were held Wednesday from the Georgas Funeral Home. The Rev. E. G. Burtness of Calvary Lutheran Church officiated. Burial was made in the Neillsville City Cemetery.

Mr. Poertner was born September 1, 1901, in St. Louis, Mo. He received his education in Missouri and came to Clark County in 1919. The family located in the Town of Hewett, where they engaged in farming. His marriage to the former Bertha Laager took place May 29, 1942, in Neillsville.

He served as a member of the Sunny Nook School board for several terms, was Town of Hewett assessor and drove school bus for eight and one-half years. He had been in failing health for the last five years.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Mrs. Stanley (Sarah) Pekol of Rt. 2 Neillsville; a son, George Ronald Poertner of Missoula, Mont.; two sisters, Mrs. Thomas (Ruby) Yndogliato of Rt. 3 Neillsville, and Mrs. Frances Sollberger of Neillsville; a brother, Oscar Poertner of Greeley Colo.; and two grandchildren.

Funeral services for George a. Poertner, 66, of Rt. 2 Neillsville, were conducted November 1, from the Georgas Funeral Home. He died here October 29. The Rev. E. G. Burtness of Calvary Lutheran Church officiated. Burial was made in the Neillsville City Cemetery.

Pallbearers were: Earl Marden, Wilson Bohnhoff, George Mashin, William Reider, William Sollberger and Mickey Sollberger. Ellis Wall sang, “In the Garden” and “Beyond the Sunset” accompanied by Mrs. Jess W. Scott.

People from away attending were: Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Poertner of Greeley, Colo.; Ronnie Poertner of Missoula, Mont.; Mr. and Mrs. Gavin Upton and family and Mr. and Mrs. Dan Dormandy and family of Black River Falls; Mr. and Mrs. B. Hughes and Ralph Hughes of New Lennex, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Pekol, Sr., of Marathon; Robert Poertner and Alfred Poertner of St. Louis, Mo.; Mrs. James Pekol of Wausau; Fred and Miss Irene Laager of Eau Claire; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Jarolimek and Art Christen of Humbird, and Ernest Sollberger of Athens.
