First German Settler In Fond du Lac Dies

Medford, Wis. - Gustave Schwartz, 83, is dead at his home northwest of here. Mr. Schwartz came to America with his parents73 years ago from Germany, the family locating in Fond du Lac Co.

The Schwartz family was the first German family to settle in that county and at that time there were but three white settlers in the entire county.

In 1883, Mr. Schwartz and family moved to Taylor Co. where he settled on land which has since been his home.
