Harry Ernest & Alta M. (Booth-Brown) Hartson

Greenwood, Clark Co., Wisconsin

Harry Ernest Hartson was born January 29, 1888, in Greenwood, Wisconsin and was the son of  Henry H. and Hilda (Wellen) Hartson.  "Harry" and Alta Booth-Brown married October 14, 1909 in Greenwood, Clark County, Wisconsin in the home of her grandparents, John and Angeline (Fertile) Booth.  She was born in Minnesota, August 8, 1887.

In May, 1891, Harry's father, Henry Hartson, purchased the Greenwood Gleaner after retiring as postmaster, Aug. 1, 1897.   He hired an editor for some ten years, and then turned the management and editorship over to his son, Harry.  For a number of years Harry E. Hartson was manager and editor of the Greenwood Gleaner which was still owned by his father, Henry H. Hartson.  Nov. 4, 1914, Henry Hartson again conducted the paper himself until July 1, 1916, when he sold out. After the paper was sold, Harry traveled as assistant state manager for the F. R. A. Insurance Co. and before 1920, Harry and Alta moved to Verdigre Village, Knox County, Nebraska.

Harry and Alta moved west and for a time lived in Verdigre Village, Knox County, Nebraska where their youngest daughter, Eleanor was born.  By 1930, the family was living in Atascadero, San Luis Obispo, California, but Harry had died before the 1930 Census was taken.  His widow, Alta died in San Fransico, California, February 4, 1941.
