DeGraw, Mary J. “Mammie” (3 MAY 1874 – 15 JAN 1881)

(First name and birth date and death date provided from family records)

A sad affair occurred in town last Saturday night. Mr. and Mrs. Michael DeGraw, residing about three one one-half miles west of here, came to town with a sick child, a little girl about seven years old, for the purpose of consulting a physician. They remained at Mr. John Diamond’s overnight, and during the night violent symptoms of croup were developed in the child, which proved to be fatal about one o’clock Sunday morning. The funeral service was held at the Cole Schoolhouse, four mile west of this village, conducted by Rev. J. P. Greer of Spencer. (Burial likely in the Cole Cemetery in Sherman Township)
