*Two killed in fire at Port Edwards:

Jack Siems, 23, and his brother Brad, 6, were killed late Sunday when a fire broke out in the home of their parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Siems, Port Edwards.

Wood County Coroner James Brietenstein said the victims died from smoke inhalation and third degree burns. The two were pronounced dead at Riverview Hospital, Wis. Rapids. Authorities said jack was killed while trying to rescue his brother from the two-story building.

A state fire marshal said this morning that a lighted candle ignited the upstairs floor or some furniture. Eight members of the family were in the home when the fire broke out.

The Port Edwards Fire Department was called to the scene at 11:25 p.m. Sunday. Although a total damage was not available, Fire Chief Rudolph Forth said the interior of the home was almost a complete loss.

One truck and five firefighters remained at the scene until dawn. Several of the 25 firefighters called to the scene were treated for electrical shocks and heat exhaustion.
