Davel, Lawrence A. (1905 - 1982)


Funeral services for Lawrence Davel, 77, of 309 S. West St., Loyal, Clark County, were conducted at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 15, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Loyal.

Mr. Davel died on Monday morning, Dec. 13, 1982, at his home.

Officiating at the mass was Rev. James Logan. Interment was in the parish cemetery, with Dick Needham, Jim Helm, Jim Rueth, Wally Szymanski, Ray Morrison and Frank Degenhardt as pallbearers.

A Parish Council of Catholic Women Rosary was said at 3:15 p.m., a Prayer Service at 8 p.m. and a Knights of Columbus Rosary was said at 8:30 p.m., Dec. 14, Rinka Funeral Home, Loyal, handled arrangements.

Lawrence Davel was born to Albert and Florence (nee Baker) Davel at Loyal on Feb. 11, 1905. He graduated from Loyal High school in 1922.

He and Nettie Shupe were married in Milwaukee on July 3, 1929.

After graduating from high school, Mr. Davel was employed in several banks in Marshfield and Loyal, then was employed by Paine Webber and Co., Stockbrokers, for five years in Milwaukee. Besides operating Davel's Store until 1968, when he retired, he had been City Clerk for the City of Loyal for almost 52 years and City Treasurer for 14 years. He was city assessor for 15 years.

He was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus and had been a past president of the Loyal Rotary Club.

Surviving him are one daughter, Mrs. Gerald (Juliann) Zettler of Loyal two sons, Ronald and James, both of Menasha one brother, Edward of Lombard, Ill. eight sisters, Mrs. Fred (Evelyn) Nolan of Minneapolis, Mrs. Scott (Marie) Canney of Algoma, Miss Martina Davel of Loyal, Mrs. Katherine Babb of Orlando, Fla., Mrs. Al (Gertrude) Phair of Oshkosh, Mrs. Lucian (Madeline) Krawczyk of Pulaski, Mrs. William (Jane) Simpson of Minneapolis and Mrs. Al (Dorothy) Schmook of Madison 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Preceding him in death besides his wife were his parents and one brother, Paul.
