Morrow, Merton V. (1893? – 01 JAN 1947)

M. V. Morrow Dies Suddenly

Merton V. Morrow, 54, a Soo Line engineer for more than 34 years, died of a heart attack in his automobile New Year’s Day, after an insignificant collision on Highway 13, 2 miles south of here.

Mr. and Mrs. Morrow were driving to Marshfield at 3 p.m. Wednesday when they encountered a jeep which, Mrs. Morrow said, was in the center of the highway. There was a slight collision as Mr. Morrow attempted to go around the smaller vehicle.

He complained of being ill and Mrs. Morrow stepped out of the car to ascertain the damage, which was minor. The driver of the other vehicle drove away and when Mrs. Morrow returned to her own car her husband was dead. She summoned a physician from Spencer and the body was taken to the Swarthout Funeral Home.

Funeral services were held at 2 o’clock Monday afternoon at the Methodist Church with Rev. R. J. Fleming officiating. Burial was made at the West Spencer cemetery.

Mr. Morrow was born near Galesville, the son of Daniel M. Morrow and Louise Worth Morrow, and resided there until he was fifteen years of age. He then moved to North Fond du Lac and was employed by the Chicago Northwestern Railway as a call boy and yard clerk.

He has been employed by the Soo Line Railroad since 1912, with the exception of his service in World War I.

He is survived by his wife, formerly Esther Eggett of Greenwood whom he married April 20, 1920 at North Fond du Lac, and two children at home, Lorraine and James Alan, three married children, Mrs. William (Myrtle) Metzger, Spencer; Merton Norman, U. S. Navy, stationed at Norfolk Va.; and Robert George of Spencer and two grandchildren, William Metzger, Jr. and Gwendolyn Morrow, also two brothers, Daniel Ward Morrow, Frank Vaughn Morrow of North Fond du Lac and two half sisters, Mrs. George (Jessie) King of Muskegon, Mich., and Mrs. Eva Grant of Puyellup, Wash. Another sister, Mrs. Charles Wetzel preceeded him in death.
Pall bearers were Clyde Wilson, Ed. Schroeder, Herman Metzger, Wm. Plath, Wm. Jensen, and Otto Prechel. Ladies who carried flowers were Mrs. Wm. Yost, Mrs. Metzger, Mrs. Prechel, and Mrs. Jensen, Mrs. Schroeder.

Those from away attending the funeral were Yeo. 1-C and Mrs. Merton Morrow, Norfolk, Va., Mr. and Mrs. F. V. Morrow, North Fond du Lac; Mr. and Mrs. D. W. Morrow, Fond du Lac; Mr. and Mrs. Carl Wetzel, Milwaukee; Jack Vincent, Galesville; Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Wilson, Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Schroeder, Mrs. H. J.
