Dahnert, Albert H. (11 January 1890 - 15 March 1968)

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon from St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church for Albert H. Dahnert, 78, of Neillsville, who died here Friday. The Rev. Norman W. Lindloff officiated. Burial was made in the Neillsville City Cemetery.

Mr. Dahnert was born January 11, 1890, in Wood County. In 1901, his parents came to Clark County, where they located on a farm south of Neillsville. As a young man he clerked in the old Hemp store in Neillsville before enlisting for army service on the Mexican border on February 26, 1915.

He was with the 32nd Division, Co. A, Third Wisconsin Infantry when the division went overseas during World War I. He was a Battalion Sergeant Major in the 121st Machine Gun Battalion. He received his discharge may 22, 1919, when he returned to Neillsville and purchased the Radke Hardware store, which he operated for five years. He then entered the postal service and was a city carrier for 26 years. He retired at the age of 62. On December 19, 1917, he was married to the former Elsie Radke in Waco, Tex.

Mr. Dahnert is survived by his wife; three children, Robert of Stroudsburg, Pa., Mrs. Arthur (Betty) Goudin and Miss Eileen Dahnert, both of Eau Claire. Other survivors are: two sisters; Mrs. Arnold (Dorothy) Wilke of El Monte, Cal., and Mrs. Kenneth (Ethel) Pedder of Los Angeles, Cal.; and four brothers, Herman and Henry of Neillsville, Charles of Cambridge, and Benjamin of Rialto, Cal. Six grandchildren also survive.

He was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church and Haugen-Richmond Post, no. 73, American Legion.

Pallbearers were: Ole Aspen, Alfred Gerber, Jess Scott, George May, Charles Neff and Hilbert Naedler.

Military services were conducted at the cemetery by the Neillsville National Guard Unit, with DeWayne Dux as bugler. Funeral arrangements were made by the Georgas Funeral Home.

“What is the World to me” and “Abide with Me” were sung by Robert Mitte, accompanied by Victor Lehmann.

People from away here for the service were: Robert Dahnert of Stroudsburg, Pa.; Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Goudin and family, Miss Eileen Dahnert, Elaine DeRouin, Louise Wilcox and Thelma Hanke, all of Eau Claire; Mr. and Mrs. Edward Radke and Miss Louise Hillmen of Montello; Mrs. Dorothy Stumke of Waupaca; Mrs. Dorothy Hellerman of Neenah; Mrs. Ronald Becker of Menasha; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Dahnert of Cambridge; Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Prindle of Humbird.
