Granton (28 March 1968)

Philip Schilling of Chili has completed razing part of the old hotel, a Granton landmark. The north side of the building was left standing and will be remodeling in the future. The building has been used as a hotel operated by the Wegner family for many years, a hardware store and a general store during its years of usability.

Basketball coach Paul Quam, Joe Daschle, assistant coach, and Leonard Thiede took eight boys of the senior class to Madison, where they attended the state basketball tournament. The boys were: Kenneth Smith, Robert White, Terry Knudson, Harlin Sternitzky, Roger Opelt, Jerry Jensen, Steve Humphrey and Jeff Crandall.

Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Schumacher and family of Battle Cr eek, Mich., have moved to Granton and are residing in the Irvin Krause house. Mr. Schumacher is employed in Marshfield.

Mr. and Mrs. Manford Cain were guests Friday evening of Mrs. Esther Peterson in Spencer.

Mr. and Mrs. Elwyn Larsen of Janesville were weekend guests of her mother, Mrs. Elda Bartz. Saturday, Mrs. Bartz and her guests visited Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Burkart in Eau Claire and made the acquaintance of their new baby. They were accompanied by Mrs. Irene Drescher, who spent last week with her daughter, Mrs. Burkart.

Mr. and Mrs. Dan Garbisch have returned home from a vacation in Florida.

The Granton Women’s Civic club will hold their April meeting Monay evening, April 1, at 7:45 p.m. in the Granton Elementary School.
