Verkuilen, Patricia (6 JUN 1964)

Miss Patricia Verkuilen, daughter of Mrs. Ruby Verkuilen and the late Mr. Verkuilen, Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.), was given in marriage by her brother Roy Verkuilen to Merlin Nevala, the son of Mr. and Mrs. T.J. Nevala, Thorp, on Saturday, Une 6, 1964.

The 11:30 a.m. double ring marriage ceremony was solemnized by the Rev. Francis Brockman in St. Bernard's Catholic Church, Thorp. The children's choir sang "On This Day" as the bride approached the altar of the Blessed Virgin.

The elegant floor length bridal gown was made of bridal bouquet taffeta with removable rose point lace jacket and chapel train. The gown featured a scoop enckline and sleeveless fitted bodice with unpressed pleated modified bell skirt. Matching lace applique trimmed the skirt front. The jacket featured a Sabrina neckline and long sleeves.

An imported forward floral bridal headpiece made of Chantilly lace and organza edged with pearl held her fingertip bouffant veil of pure silk imported English illusion. Her cascade bouquet consisted of calla lilies.

Miss Sue Verkuilen was her sister's maid of honor, wearing a powder blue sheath dress made of silk linen. The dress featured bateau neckline, elbow length sleeves, fitted bodice and skirt with loose flowing panel at back topped with bow. Wearing a dress identical to the maid of honor was the bridesmaid, Miss Carole Crisler, a friend of Portland, Oregon. They both wore matching forward floral hats with lily of the valley drop front and circular veils and carried cascade bouquets of blue tipped Fuji mums.

Robert Hmielak, a friend of the groom, was best man, and groomsman was Marvin Verkuilen, brother of the bride. Ushers were James Lukas, Green Bay and Gerald Szymanski, Strum, both friends of the groom.

A dinner was held at the church hall and a reception from 2 to 4 p.m. was held at the American Legion Hall. Miss Barbara Fletcher, a friend of the bride, circulated the guest book.

The bride, a 1959 graduate of Thorp High School, is employed at Employers Mutual Insurance Co., Wausau, and the groom also attended Thorp High School and graduated in 1962 from Wis. State College, River Falls, and is presently on the Mosinee Junior High School faculty.

After a wedding trip to the western states, the new Mr. and Mrs. Nevala will be at home at 606 4th Ave., Wausau, Wis.
