Cardinal, Lawrence H. (July 10, 1925 - October 16, 2009)
 
Lawrence H. Cardinal, 84, Town of Chelsea resident, died Friday, Oct. 16 at
his residence under the loving care of his family and Hope Hospice.
 
Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 19 at the Hemer Funeral Home in
Medford, with Rev. Nancy Amacher officiating, and full military honors
performed by the Medford Military Honors Team.
 
Burial was at Riverside Cemetery in Withee. Pallbearers were members of the
Abramowicz-Kaczmarczyk-Cwikla American Legion Post No. 547 of Lublin.
 
Lawrence Cardinal was born July 10, 1925 in Stanley to the late Bert and
Gertrude (Baumgarten) Cardinal.
 
He attended Lakeview and Sawyer Dam Schools in the Town of Grover. He moved with his family to the Town of Grover when he was six years old.
 
On February 3, 1945, he married Doris Jasmer who preceded him in death on
February 13, 1975.
 
He then married Opal Frischman on December 4, 1976, and she survives.
 
He served in the United States Army from April 25, 1946 until May 3, 1947,
serving in Japan. He then did odd jobs such as carpentry and working on a mink ranch. He also farmed, worked at Hurd Millwork in Medford from 1952 until 1959, then worked in the woods for Tom Hartwig, Walter Haenel and then
for Wayne Hamann until 1990. He then worked part-time at Don's Salvage.
 
He was a life member of Klossner-Dietzler VFW Post No. 5729 of Medford and
the Abramowicz-Kaczmarczyk-Cwikla American Legion Post No. 547 of Lublin. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
 
In addition to his wife Opal, survivors include four daughters, Sharon (significant other Jeff White) Strobach of Dorchester, Julia (Brian) Kramer and Debra (Don) Blasel, both of Withee, and Beverly Elliott of Peotone, Ill.; three sons, Roger (Carol) of Arbor Vitae, Clifford (Norma) of Tomahawk, and Marvin (Lisa) of Jump River; a stepdaughter, Bonnie (Bruce) Brunner of Medford; two stepsons, Arliegh Leach of Medford and LeRoy (Karen) Leach of Mauston; three sisters, Alvina Judyski of Nixa, Mo., Elaine (Duane) Oldham of Pompano Beach, Fla., and Florence (Dennis) Fischer of Ringle; two brothers, Gilbert (Janet) of Withee and Lyle (Linda) of Branson West, Mo.; 17 grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 13 stepgreat-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter; numerous nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
 
In addition to his parents and first wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth in 1946; a daughter Shirley, in 1964; two brothers, Lester and
Ronald; and two sisters, Audrey and Helen.
 
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Lawrence's family to be
designated at a later date.
