Runyon, Virginia May (November 27, 1921 - March 27, 2009)

Irene L. Schmid, 87, Medford, died Friday, March 27 at the home of her great-niece in the Town of Medford, where she had resided the past year.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 1 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Medford, with Father Gerard Willger and Deacon Joe Stefancin officiating. Burial was at Dorchester Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearers were Lucas Chariton, Richard Konkol, Scott Blume, Jason Stiller, Jim Yaron and Josh Krug.

The former Irene Langteau was born November 27, 1921 in the Town of Little Black to the late Leo and Catherine (Habermeyer) Langteau. She attended Little Black Center School. She worked at the Laddish Company in Cudahy.

On June 19, 1945 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Stetsonville, she married Lawrence I. Schmid, who preceded her in death on September 23, 1980. They farmed in the Dorchester area for 25 years until her retirement in 1970. She moved to Medford in 1981 and baked desserts for the Miracle Mile Diner in her retirement for many years.

She was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and past member of St. Louis Catholic Church of Dorchester and the Altar Society. She enjoyed dancing, oil painting, baking and her girls.

Survivors include two brothers, Gerald (Angie) of Milwaukee and Leonard (Janet) of Chippewa Falls; and several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Marie Baumgartner and Lorraine Konkol; and three brothers, Roy, Arthur and Kenneth. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Holy Rosary Catholic Church.
