Riegert, Edward Herman “Ed” (February 26, 1918 - March 29, 2009)

Edward "Ed" Herman Riegert, 90, Stetsonville, passed away Sunday, March 29 at Memorial Nursing Home in Medford.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Thursday, April 2 at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Stetsonville, with Father Fredrick Brost officiating. Interment will be at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Stetsonville at a later date. Pallbearers will be Mark Riegert, Michael Riegert, Don Cypher, Jason Cypher, Abbie Hasenohrl, Megan Hasenohrl, Joe Cypher and Steve Hasenohrl.

Edward Riegert was born February 26, 1918 in Medford to the late Ren and Josephine "Josie" (Vogt) Riegert. He attended Pleasant Valley Graded School and was a 1936 graduate of Dorchester High School.

On September 25, 1946 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Medford, he married Norma June Amo, who survives. He owned and operated a dairy farm in Stetsonville with his brother, Herb, owned and operated Riegert Brothers Mink Ranch, and later was an insurance agent through which he was the State of Wisconsin Director of Insurance with General Life of America. Ed then started his own business, Dairy Consultants, which was a dairy cattle nutrition program. He later drove as a volunteer for the Commission on Aging, was employed as a driver for Comfort Carriers and for 24 years was a volunteer with the Farmers Crisis Hotline.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Catholic Order of Foresters and the Democratic Party. Ed enjoyed hunting, especially fox, playing cards, especially sheepshead, cribbage, and in later years he enjoyed computers and the Internet.

Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Norma; two sons, Michael Riegert of Stetsonville and Mark Riegert and Pam of Medford; two daughters, Sharon (Joe) Cypher of Medford and Judith (Steve) Hasenohrl of Rapids City, S.D.; a sister, Rose Riegert of Medford; four grandchildren, Jason (Amy) Cypher of Medford, Donald (Heather) Cypher of Eau Claire, Megan Hasenohrl of Overland Park, Kan. and Abbie Hasenohrl of Minneapolis, Minn.; two great-grandchildren, Emily Rose Cypher and Alex Cypher; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Herb Riegert; and a sister, Matilda (Joseph) Mueller.

Ed was a wonderful husband, brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend who touched many lives with his compassionate heart. For the final four days of his life, Ed was surrounded by family and friends who prayed, sang, reminisced and gave him love.

Dallmann-Kniewel Funeral Homes of Medford and Rib Lake assisted the family with arrangements.
