Bokath, Lela F. (Huber) (June 28, 1917 - March 19, 2009)

Former Rib Lake resident Lela F. Bokath, 91, Marshfield, passed away Thursday, March 19 at Marshfield Care Center.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, March 23 at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Rib Lake, with Father Otto Bucher officiating.

Interment was at Lakeview Cemetery in Rib Lake. Pallbearers were Chuck Bokath, Brett Bokath, Dustin Bokath, Joe Tomandl, Mike Tomandl and Sam Tomandl.

The former Lela Huber was born June 28, 1917 in Duluth, Minn., the daughter of the late Otto and Mae (Dutcher) Huber. The family moved to Medford during her childhood years and she attended Medford area schools.

On April 17, 1941 in Medford, Lela was united in marriage to Verl Arthur Bokath, who preceded her in death. They made their home in Rib Lake. Prior to her marriage, Lela had been employed at the Medford Hospital, and after had been employed at the Rib Lake Cheese Factory for several years.

Lela was a member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church and the Lehman-Clendenning American Legion Auxiliary of Rib Lake. She had been a member of the Christian Mothers, a leader for several years for the Rib Lake Lucky Lakers 4-H Club and was past secretary and treasurer of the Lakeview Cemetery Association. Lela enjoyed arts and crafts, sewing, baking and fishing.

Survivors include a daughter and two sons-in-law, Cynthia "Cindy" (Kent) Mueller of Marshfield and Bruce Herrmann of Wittenberg; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Charles Bokath of Memphis, Tenn., and Scott (Melissa) Bokath of Stanley; two brothers, Harold (Vione) Huber of Memphis and Less (Ellen) Huber of Watertown; a sister, Irene Steffen of Whiting; five grandchildren, Charles (Darcy) Bokath, Brett (fiancée Cori Schleger) Bokath, Kerri (Ryan) Nystrom and Dustin and Dakota Bokath; one great-granddaughter, Ansley Bokath; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, James Bokath; a daughter, Cheryl Herrmann; two daughters-in-law, Diane Bokath and Lori Bokath; and two sisters and four brothers-in-law, Leona (Joe) Tomandl, Pearl (Jack) Dawson, Mark Werner and Dick Steffen.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in honor of Lela may be given to Good Shepherd Catholic Church Renovation Fund or to St. Joseph's Hospital House of the Dove Capital Campaign.

Dallmann-Kniewel Funeral Homes of Medford and Rib Lake assisted the family with arrangements.
