Gengler, Matthew P. (25 Nov. 1921 – 20 Jan. 2004)

MEDFORD – Matthew P. Gengler, 82, Medford, was pronounced dead Jan. 20, 2004, at his home in the town of Molitor.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Cremainal internment will be in the Molitor Catholic Cemetery and will take place in the spring.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at the Hemer Funeral Home. A 7 p.m. prayer service will be held Friday at the funeral home.

He was born Nov. 25, 1921, in Rice Lake to Anton and Catherine (Bodewin) Gengler. He married A. Lorraine Higgins on Nov. 25, 1943, in San Diego. He served with the U.S. Navy for six years during World War II. He served in the Pacific Theater with the 7th Fleet aboard the cruiser the USS St. Paul. He began farming after his discharge and was employed in Medford and in Dorchester.

Surviving are his wife, A. Lorraine Gengler; three daughters, Sally (Ron) Banks, Medford, Peggy (Dale) Obernberger, Stratford, and Vicky Gengler, Chippewa Falls; three sons, Terry (Cindy) Gengler, Chippewa Falls, Tom (Patty) Gengler and Matt Jr. (Sue) Gengler, all of Medford; 15 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; his brother, Eugene Gengler, West Bend; and three sisters, Theresa Zeeman, Baraboo, Catherine Brown, Cofton, Md., and Isabel Sigmund, Medford.
