Mudgett, Richard Donald Jr. (July 15, 1951 - January 25, 2009)

Richard Donald Mudgett Jr., 57, Town of Westboro, died Sunday, Jan. 25 at his home. A memorial service will be held Friday, Jan. 30 at 1 p.m. at Christ Community Church in Jump River, with Pastor Tom Forester and Pastor Craig Lundgren officiating. Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Berg, Tony Butera, Steve Peterson, Tracy Sackmann, Paul Zondlo, Don Ramm, Don Hoefferle and Paul Surek.

Visitation will be held at the church on Friday from noon until the time of the service.

Richard Mudgett Jr. was born July 15, 1951 in Medford to the late Richard Donald and Lucille Maye (Miller) Mudgett Sr. He attended Hannibal Graded School and Gilman High School.

After high school, he worked on the family farm until he purchased his first bar in 1988. He owned several bars in the area. He retired in 1993.

He was a member of the Taylor County Sportsmens Club. He enjoyed his family, hunting, and softball for which he was known for his home run hitting, playing for the Hannibal baseball team, Hunters Lodge, L & M Supper Club and Guziak Oil baseball team. He also enjoyed taking deer out of season.

Survivors include three sons, Cory (Debbie) of Stetsonville, Jessie (Trish) of Park Falls and Cody of Westboro; five  brothers, Clyde (Eileen) Martz and LeRoy (Jackie) Martz, both of Baraboo, George (Carol) Mudgett of Miller Dam, Norman (Marcine) Mudgett of Jump River and Dale (Sharon) Mudgett of Hannibal; five sisters, Lucile Smith of Loves Park, Ill., Martha (Ed) Simmons of Van Leer, Ky., Debbie (Mike) Wright of Jump River, Betty (Jim) Harp of Hannibal and Pat (Hugh) Williams of Cheyenne, Wyo.; six grandchildren, Rachel, Seth, Karissa, Gage, Ethan, and Jade Mudgett; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Chuck Smith.

Dallmann-Kniewel Funeral Homes of Medford and Rib Lake assisted the family with arrangements.
