Jess Madison passed away at his home in the Town of Cleveland, Taylor County, Wis., on Thursday, Nov. 25th, 1948, death resulting from a heart attack. He had reached the age of 78 years, two months and sixteen days.

Mr. Madison was born at Arkansaw, Wis. on Sept. 8, 1870. On Nov. 1st, 1890, he was united in marriage to Ann Roeder at Durand, Wis., and moved to Eau Claire, residing in that city until March 1909, when they moved to their present 320 acre farm at Hannibal.

Left to mourn his passing are his wife, Mrs. Ann Roeder Madison, two sons, Lance of Cobban, Wis., and Nick of Lake Isadore, Wis., one daughter, Mrs. Colonel Harp (Myrtle), two brothers, Joe Madison of New Auburn, Wis., and John Madison of Ohio, four sisters, Ann of Ashland, Jane of Harrison, Neb., Julia of Whitewater, Josephine of Durand, seven grandchildren, Vernon Madison Hannibal, Virginia Madison Gingras, Cobban, Eva Harp, Chippewa Falls, Gordon Madison, Medford, Ruth Madison Dehne, Stetsonville, Vera Madison, Hannibal, Alvin Madison, River Falls and five great-grandchildren, Wayne and Jeanie Madison, Hannibal, Janice and Raymond Gingras of Cobban, Joan Dehne of Stetsonville.

Funeral services were held at the Presbyterian Church at Hannibal on Saturday, Nov. 27, 1948, at 2 P.m., Rev. George Fisher officiating. During the service, the choir, Mr. Paul Burss, Miss Carrie Burss and Mrs. Emanuel Granquist sang “In the Garden, “What a Friend We Have in Jesus” and “Doe Jesus Care?”. Mrs. Lavern Blazek accompanied on the piano. Interment took place at the Hannibal Cemetery.

The pallbearers were: Nick Diedrich, Roy T. Warner, Walt Hartenstein, Martin Glebke, Jerome Dodge, and Lawrence Yager.

A large number of friends and relatives from out of town attended the funeral besides all his many friends from Gilman and Hannibal.
