Schmidt, Lawrence "Larry" N. (January 27, 1933 - January 13, 2011)

Lawrence "Larry" N. Schmidt, 77, Medford, died Thursday, Jan. 13 at his home, with his wife at his side, while under hospice care.

A memorial service was held Saturday, Jan. 15 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Medford, with Father Gerard Willger officiating.


Lawrence Schmidt was born on January 27, 1933 in Park Falls to the late John H. and Anna (Fenzl) Schmidt.

He attended St. Anthony DePadua Catholic School, was a 1951 graduate of Lincoln High School, received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Wisconsin-Superior, and did post graduate work at the University of Minnesota-Duluth. He served in the United States Navy for four years during the end of the Korean War. In 1961 he moved to Medford.


On May 2, 1970 at the Chapel of the Salvation Seminary in St. Nazianz, he married Joanne E. Severson, who survives. He was employed by Medford Area Schools as a teacher, counselor and school psychologist, retiring in 1989.


He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church. He enjoyed people, fishing and golfing.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two brothers, Donald (Johnni) of Dayton, Ohio, and James of Amery; five sisters-in-law, Jeri Schmidt of Park Falls, Ann "Click" Schmidt of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Mary Schmidt of Lombard, Ill., Ann Schmidt of Hayward and Vody Habermann of Hurst, Texas; three brothers-in-law, John Rybak of Butternut, Glenn (Carolyn) Severson of Lantana, Texas, and Roger (Linda) Severson of Yakima, Wash.; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.


In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Marion (Willard) Newell, Rose Marie (Quentin) Hoth, Angeline (Richard) LaRose, Margaret Rybak, Richard, John, Gerald and Robert; and a sister-in-law, Sharon Schmidt.


In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials in his name to Holy Rosary Catholic School.
