Strobach, Jeannette "Jan" A. (Poirier) (28 AUG 1921 - 2 JUL 2012)

 

Jeannette "Jan" A. Strobach, 90, Medford, died on Monday, July 2 at Memorial Nursing and Rehab Center in Medford, where she had resided the past four years, while under hospice care.

 

Funeral services were held on Friday, July 6 at Hemer Funeral Home in Rib Lake, with Deacon Mark Priniski officiating. Cremainal inurnment will take place at a later date at Lakeview Cemetery in Rib Lake.


The former Jeannette Poirier was born on August 28, 1921 in Houghton, Mich., to the late Gene and Agnes (Kutscheid) Poirier.

 

She attended Holy Redeemer Catholic Grade School in Milwaukee. Her family moved to Milwaukee when she was one year old, then in 1935 moved to the Medford area where they owned and operated a family dairy farm.


On February 14, 1939 at Holy Rosary in Medford, she married Bernard L. Strobach, who survives. They moved to Illinois during World War II, then in 1948 they moved to the Rib Lake area where they owned and operated a dairy farm. During this time, she worked at Gem Products Shoe Factory in Rib Lake and also in the laundry department at the Rib Lake Nursing Home. In 1972, they moved to Spirit Lake.


She was a past member of Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Rib Lake, and was a Taylor County volunteer driver, 4-H leader, United Way volunteer, charter member of the Spirit Lakes Improvement Association board and correspondent, Hope Hospice volunteer, and Little Bohemia Bowling League for Sunderlin's. She enjoyed fishing, cooking, traveling, vegetable and flower gardening, reading, and in her later years when she could no longer see the print, she would listen to books on cassette, and spending time with her family.


In addition to her husband, survivors include five sons, Lee (significant other Rosie) of Ogema, Ray (Carol) of Rib Lake, Dale (Bernadette) of Osceola, Ted (Sandra) of Roscoe, Ill., and Dean (Gayle) of Ogema; two daughters, Bernadette (William) Marschke of Rib Lake and Judy (William) Gelhaus of Brenda, Ariz.; a sister, Joyce (Lester) Noland of the Town of Browning; two sisters-in-law, Marcie Poirier of Medford and Renate Poirier of Belvedere, Ill.; 27 grandchildren; 54 great-grandchildren; and 19 great-great-grandchildren.


In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Eugene and William; a daughter-in-law, Bev Strobach; and two sons-in-law, Bob Sunderlin and Stanley Kroll.


In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to her family to be designated at a later date.
