Franke, John H. (10 Sept. 1901 - 5 Feb. 1984)

John H. Franke, 82, of 306 N. Ash Ave. died at 3:46 p.m. Sun. at St. Joseph’s Hospital, where he was a patient the past two weeks.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wed. at Immanuel Lutheran Church with the Rev. Robert C. Reinhardt officiating. Bruce Jensema will be the organist and Mrs. Judy Erickson will be the soloist. Burial will be in Brooklawn Memory Gardens. Grandsons will be pallbearers.

Visitation at the Hansen Funeral Home will be from 2-9 p.m. Tues., and Wed. until 9:30 a.m., and then at the church after 10 a.m. until service time.

He was born Sept. 10, 1901 in Calumet County to the late Mr. and Mrs. Oscar (Anna Gotther) Franke. At a young age he moved with his family to the Granton area and received his education in schools there.

He married Besie M. Gardner Oct. 30, 1922 in Grace Lutheran parsonage in Nasonville. They observed their golden wedding anniversary on Oct. 27, 1972 and their 55th anniversary in 1977. Mrs. Franke died Aug. 11, 1981.

After their marriage they farmed in the Chili and Sherwood areas, later moving to Unity where they farmed for 23 years. In 1961 they moved to Marshfield where he has since resided. He was employed by the Marshfield Homes Inc. until retiring in 1963.

While living in Unity, he was an assessor for the Town of Beaver and also a school board member. He held several offices in St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in the Town of Green Grove.

A member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Mr. Franke is survived by a daughter, Mrs. James (Lois) Schindler of Rpute 1, Unity; three sons, Rodney and Chester Franke, both of Marshfield and Kenneth Franke of Route 1, Chili; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. Emma Sanger of Neillsville and Mrs. Clara Gaulke of Chili.

He was also predeceased by a grandson, a great-granddaughter and a sister.
