Vesper resident takes own life

VESPER - Jack Gerber, 44, Vesper, died at 8:10 a.m. Fri. at his home. Death resulted from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, according to Wood County Deputy Coroner William Voight.

Services were at 11 a.m. today at St. James Catholic Church, Vesper, with the Rev. George Stashek officiating. Burial was in Union Cemetery, Mellen.

He was born May 31, 1940 in Milwaukee, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold (Irma) Gerber. He married Anna May Mesko June 5, 1971 in Mellen.

He moved to the Vesper area from Phillips six years ago and was employed by Beatrice Foods, Vesper, as an electrician. He served with the U.S. Coast Guard from 1960 to 1964.

Survivors include his wife; Anna; his mother, Mrs. Irma Gerger (sic) of Wisconsin Rapids; one son, James and one daughter, Dianna, both at home; one brother, Harold of Milwaukee; and one sister, Betty Stanlaw of Chicago.

He was predeceased by his father and two brothers.
