Michalsen, William D. (1933? - 2009)

William D. Michelsen, 76, 1040 Townline Road, Wisconsin Rapids, died Fri., May 22, 2009, at Saint Joseph's Hospital Palliative Care Unit in Marshfield.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wed., May 27, 2009, at Grace Lutheran Church in Wisconsin Rapids. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tues. at Taylor, Vollert and Jennings Funeral Home and from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Wed. at the church.

William D. Michalsen, 76, 1040 Townline Road, Wisconsin Rapids, passed away Fri., May 22, 2009, at Saint Joseph's Palliative Care in Marshfield.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wed., May 27, at Grace Lutheran Church in Wisconsin Rapids. Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tues., May 26, at Taylor, Vollert and Jennings Funeral Home and also from 10 a.m. until the time of services Wed. at the church.

Bill was born Dec. 10, 1932, in Chicago to Hans and Caroline (Ewell) Michalsen. He graduated from West Bend High School in 1950. He married Gail Saeger on June 14, 1952, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wisconsin Rapids. Bill began working for Consolidated Papers Inc. of Wisconsin Rapids in 1951 and retired in 1992 as paper machine superintendent after 42 years of service. After retiring, Bill enjoyed working the cranberry harvest at Gaynor Cranberry for several years.

Bill and Gail were blessed with three children, John, Dawn and Susan. Besides raising his family, Bill was an avid hunter, fisherman, wood craftsman and golfer. Bill especially enjoyed his growing family; he was very proud of his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Bill will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Gail; son, John (Ann) Michalsen; daughters, Dawn (Bruce) Wenzel and Susan (Gary) Dempze; grandson, Bill (Theresa) Michalsen; granddaughters, Tina (Craig) Leverance, Amy Dobbs, Heidi Dobbs, Jenna Dempze and Katie Wenzel; step grandson, Nathan Wenzel; great-granddaughter, Abby Michalsen; great-grandsons, Evan and Carter Leverance and Erik Michalsen; sister, Vivian Varga; and brother, Richard Michalsen.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Effie Hamm and Laura Benz; and brothers, Robert Michalsen and Howard Michalsen.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Grace Lutheran Church in Wisconsin Rapids.
