Goude, James P. (25 Dec. 1910 - 3 Mar. 2009)

James P. Goude, 98, 2830 Otter Drive, Waupaca, died early Tues. morning, March 3, 2009, at Saint Joseph's Hospital in Marshfield.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Sat. at Taylor, Vollert and Jennings Funeral Home in Wisconsin Rapids. The Rev. Douglas Schalow will officiate. Burial will be in Arpin Cemetery.

James was born in Rochester, Minn., on Dec. 25, 1910, to Reghl and Arlie (Schlag) Goude. He was educated at Meadow Brook School in the Arpin area.

He married Hazel Habeck on November 15, 1939, in Dubuque, Iowa, and they celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary in 2008. They farmed in the Arpin area until retiring in 1973, when they moved to Vesper. They lived in Vesper until 2007, when they moved to Waupaca.

He played baseball for Arpin as a young man and played cards at Doc Ryan's and taverns in Arpin. He enjoyed reading westerns by Zane Grey and Louis L'Amour.

Survivors include his wife, Hazel; two daughters: Barbara (Gordie) Ahlf and Linda (Chuck) Cleary; four grandchildren: Debbie (Greg) Barnes, Becky (Joel) Coon, Jeff (Jessi) Cutler and Kevin (fiancee Heidi) Cutler; seven great-grandchildren: Dustin and Amanda Cutler, Scott Nelson, Katie and Amanda Barnes, and Emma and Sophia Coon; brother-in-law and sister-in-law: Charles and LaVerne Habeck; two other sisters-in-law: Dorothy Picozzi and Nancy Habeck; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife's parents, Carl and Anna (Saeger) Habeck; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Gilbert and Grace Habeck; another brother-in-law, Elmer Habeck; and one son-in-law, Don Cutler.

Friends may call at Taylor, Vollert and Jennings Funeral Home from 9:30 a.m. Sat.until the time of services.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the caring staff members at Bethany Home in Waupaca.
