Duane J. "Duke" Bunkelman, 73, Marshfield, died Sat. Feb. 28, 2009, at his home.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thur., March 5, 2009, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Marshfield. The visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wed. at Rembs' Funeral Home (300 S. Oak Ave. - Marshfield, WI) and from 10 a.m. until service time Thur. at the church.

Duane "Duke" Bunkelman, 73, Marshfield, died Sat. Feb. 28, 2009, at his home surrounded by his family under the care of Ministry Home Hospice and the special care of DeeAnn Polacek.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thur., March 5, 2009, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Marshfield. The Revs. Chris Schwanz and Donn Radde will officiate. Burial will take place in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Marshfield, where military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post No. 54. Serving as pallbearers will be a grandson, Adam Nikolai and nephews, Jon, Russell, Tim and Jim Bunkelman and Dave Frane. The visitation will be held Wed. from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Rembs' Funeral Home (300 S. Oak Ave. - Marshfield, WI) and Thur. from 10 a.m. until service time at Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Mr. Bunkelman was born Dec. 28, 1935, in Milan to Chester and Tillie (Suennen) Bunkelman. He attended elementary school in Milan and was a graduate of Abbotsford High School. He and Darlene A. Knippel were united in marriage July 20, 1957, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Medford. In 1958, Duane was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in Germany for two years. During the Berlin Crisis, he was recalled to active duty for two more years. After his honorable discharge he was employed at Weyerhaeuser Company, Marshfield, for 20 years and then he drove truck for Schneider Transport for 19 years until his retirement.

Duke enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, brothers and many nieces and nephews.

He enjoyed snowmobiling with family and friends and weekends on the Holcombe Flowage.

He is survived by his wife, Darlene, and their children, Lori (Hugh) Nikolai of Marshfield, Jeanne (Steve) Canney of Kimberly, and Jeff (Martha Steinhart) Bunkelman of St. Paul, Minn. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Megan and Adam Nikolai, Nicole and Jackie Canney and Mariana Steinhart. He is further survived by two brothers, Lloyd Bunkelman and Bernard "Chuck" Bunkelman, both of Athens.

He was predeceased by his parents, five brothers and one sister.

Memorial expressions of sympathy may be directed to Hospice Home Care or Immanuel Lutheran Church.
