Hoffman, Herbert (24 June 1925 - 29 Jan. 2006)

 

Herbert P. Hoffman, 80, 1309 South Chestnut Ave., died Sunday, Jan. 29, 2006, at the Palative Care Unit in St. Joseph's Hospital surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer.

 

A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 am Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2006, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with the Rev. Peter Manickam.  Suzanne Golden will be the organist along with the Sacred Heart Church Choir.

 

Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery with his godsons Tom and Ron Hoffman, Allen Polster, Mark Bluhm, Darrell Poeschel and Mark Junemann serving as pallbearers.  Herb's four grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers. Military rites will be conducted at the cemetery by American Legion Post No. 54 of Marshfield.

 

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday at Rembs/Kundinger Funberal Home, and again on Wednesday at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services.  There will be a combined rosary service at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral (has been done)

 

After moving from the farm in the Sherry area to Marshfield, he began his career in the home construction field, retiring from Trierweiler Construction Company in 1989.  During the 1950's he planted thousands of evergreens on the Thornton Green Farm in the town of McMillan, Sugar Bush area.

 

During his retirement, his hobbies were gardening and woodworking.  Herb handcrafted many beautiful treasures of wood for his family and friends.  Herb enjoyed traveling with his wife, and loved having is grandchildren and great-grandchildren around him.

 

He was a member of Sacred Heart and its Holy Name Society, Knights of Columbus, in which he was an honorary life member, Eagles Club No. 624 and American Legion Post No. 54.

 

Herb enjoyed life to the fullest.

 

Herb is lovingly survived by his wife Lorinda; chiuldren, Gerald (Lynn) Hoffman, Schofield, and Marlene Wells, Delores (Dale) Schreiner and Cheryl (Kim) Heiman, all of Marshfield;  nine grandchildren, Eric Hoffman, Brett (Jenny) Hoffman, Lori (Gerry) Immerfall, Kari (Jim) Seefluth, Tracy (Brian) Gust, Rhonda (Scott) Smith, Steve (Ashley Sitala) Schreiner, and Mariah and Trevor Heiman; 11 great-grandchildren, McKenna, Marissa
