The local high school (Loyal, Clark Co., Wis.) held their annual
commencement exercises at the M.W.A. Hall on Thursday evening, June 7th,
1917, when five young people were given their diplomas.
The Hall was prettily decorated in the class colors of green and gold, and
at the rear of the stage hung the class motto, "Sunrise not Sunset."
The program was given as printed in a former issue of the Tribune, each one
taking their parts creditably. The subjects given by each showed careful
preparation and training. The male quartet selection by Messrs. B.W., J.R.
and R. Colby, and E.L Henning was well received.
The orator of the evening, Principal Olson of Reedsburg, gave a very fine
address, which was listened to by an appreciative audience.
Following this came the presentation of diplomas by Principal McKean.
The following are the names of those completing the course: Misses Esther
Van Camp, Bernice Irvine, Mable Etta, Gladys Herdrich and Mr. Lafaytette
Lyon. The class have all completed the High School Course with credit, and
each one is planning to equip themselves still further by entering some
school or college in the fall.
Much credit is due Principal E.J. McKean, and also the school board, for
their untiring labor in making this one of the foremost high school in the
county.
