Verhulst, Clarence A. (7 OCT 1901 – 30 APR 1987)
GREENWOOD — Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Our Savior Lutheran
Church, Greenwood, for Clarence A. Verhulst, 85, Greenwood, who died
Thursday (April 30, 1987) at his home.
The Rev. Richard Sorenson will officiate and burial will be in the Greenwood
Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Arvin, Jerry and Tom Verhulst, Tim Milz, Matt Ruzic,
Monty Haugland, Carl Hoeppner, Mike Harris and Wally Hribar. Honorary
pallbearers will be Howard Olsen, Daniel Olson, Aage, Roger and Wayne
Nielsen, Ray Barkus, Ralph Ystad and Godfrey Dyre.
Visitation will be at the Rinka Funeral Home, Greenwood, after 4 p.m.
Sunday, and at the church on Monday from 10 a.m. until service time.
He was born Oct. 7, 1901, in Sheboygan County, to Peter and Elizabeth
Verhulst. He attended Longwood State Grade School.
He married Esther Johnson Dec. 8, 1926, in the town of Beaver. They farmed
in the town of Beaver, until moving to the town of Warner in 1928. In 1945,
they moved to the city of Greenwood, where he worked at Midland Cooperative
for a number of years, then for the city of Greenwood. The couple celebrated
their golden wedding anniversary in 1976. Mrs. Verhulst died May 4, 1986.
He was a member of Our Savior Church, the church council and dart- ball
team, and was a former member of the Greenwood City Council, the Greenwood
Fire Department, and had served as a director of the School Board, and
supervisor of the town of Warner.
Surviving are three sons, Lyle of Greenwood, Kenneth of Marshfield, and Rev.
Harold of Sturgis, S.D.; a daughter, Corrine Verhulst of Los Angeles; three
sisters, Ruth Verhulst and Mrs. Grace Dugre, both of Greenwood, and Mrs.
Celen (Harriet) Gotter of Loyal; 12 grandchildren and 25
great-grandchildren.
Besides his wife, he was predeceased by a brother, Harvey.
