Shirk, Leon Z. (17 MAY 1952 – 18 OCT 2019)

Leon Z. Shirk, age 67, of Town of Hixon, passed away on Friday, October 18,2019, at Marshfield Medical Center.

Services were at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 23, 2019, at Meadow Brook Mennonite Church in the Town of Withee. John Brubaker Jr., Marvin Leid, Elvin Fox, Andrew Brubacher, and John David Zimmerman will officiate. Pallbearers will be Nathaniel Sauder, Loren Sauder, Benjamin Sauder, Joshua Sauder, Justus Zimmerman and Jared Brubaker. Visitation was on Tuesday, October 22, 2019, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the residence (N16147 Clark Ave).

Leon was born on May 17, 1952, in Lancaster County, PA, the son of Ammon M. and Grace M. (Zimmerman) Shirk. He was united in marriage to Esther M. Brubaker on November 30, 1972, in Berks County, PA. They moved from Pennsylvania to the Withee area to farm in April 1977.

Leon is survived by his children: Joshua (Grace Ann) Shirk, Justin (Janelle) Shirk , Leon Ray Shirk, Ida Jean (Roy) Hoover, Lucinda (Landis) Sauder, Dorothy (Glenn) Sauder, Joanna (Lester) Brubaker, Esther Mae (Elvin) Zimmerman, Perceda (Lamar) Nolt, Sarah Jane (Leroy) Brubaker, Sylvia Grace (Leroy) Nolt, Martha Maria (Wayne) Brubacher; two brothers: Ernest Shirk and Vernon (Orpha) Shirk ; and five sisters: Eva Mae (Jim) Pabich, Ilene (David) Zimmerman, Lorene (Clair) Horst, Carolyn (Neil) Staufer and Grace Ann (Leonard) Zimmerman. Leon is further survived by 61 grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Esther; parents; parents-in-law; three grandchildren; one sister; three sisters-in-law; and two brothers-in-law.
