Ammann, George Peter, Jr. (30 October 1925 – 17 November 2008) With Flag

George P. Ammann Jr., 83, of Black River Falls passed away Monday, Nov. 17, 2008, at Country Terrace, while under the care of Black River Hospice.

George Peter Ammann, Jr. was born Oct. 30, 1925, in Arcadia to George and Gertrude (Rocholl) Ammann. He was raised in Arcadia and graduated from Arcadia High School in 1944.

He served with the U. S. Army from June 20, 1945 until September of 1946.

George married LaNita Behnke Oct. 19, 1950, in Arcadia. The couple lived in Plum City, Rock Elm and Arcadia before moving to Black River Falls in 1954. They also lived in Milwaukee from 1985 until 1995. They returned to Black River Falls in 1995. LaNita Ammann died April 20, 2000.

George was an over-the-road truck driver who, for many years, owned and operated his own trucks. From 1985 until retiring in 1995, he was employed by Ganton Trucking of Milwaukee.

He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and the Teamsters Union. He enjoyed dancing, collecting, antiquing, building decorative wagons for yards and gambling.

Survivors include two daughters, Betty (Steve) Alderman of La Crosse and Cathy (Jim) Wright of Merrillan; six sons, Michael (Honnie) Ammann of Holmen, Dave (Julie) Ammann of Brownsville, MN, Steve (Janice) Ammann of West Allis, Dennis (Janet) Ammann and Gary (Rhonda) Ammann, both of Black River Falls, and Richard (Jill) Ammann of Madison; 17 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Mary Jane Snow of La Crosse; three brothers, James Ammann of Boston, MA, Linus Ammann of Madison and Devon (LuAnn) Ammann of Arcadia; a special friend, Grace Ann McCormick of Black River Falls; and nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.

In addition to his wife, LaNita, George was preceded in death by two sisters, Evelyn Wiersgalla and Arvilla Pierzina, and two brothers, Joseph and Marcellus Ammann.

Mass of Christian burial will be held Thursday, Nov. 20, 2008, 11 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Black River Falls. Father John Steiner will be officiating. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, Black River Falls.

Family and friends are invited for visitation Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2008, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Buswell Funeral Home, Black River Falls. Family and friends are also invited for visitation Thursday, Nov. 20, 2008, from 10 a.m. until the time of the mass at the church. There will be a public prayer service at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be given to either St. Joseph’s Catholic Church or Black River Hospice.
