ARLENE PETKE BECOMES BRIDE OF CLAYTON BOWE

A double ring marriage ceremony was performed at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, Januar 4 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Withee.  The Rev. LeRoy Urman officiated at the nuptial service for Miss Arlene Petke and Clayton E. Bowe.

Parents of the newlyweds are Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Petke, Route 1, Withee, and Mr. and Mrs. Edward Bowe, Greenwood.

Miss Sharon Heideman, Withee, the organist played a prelude of nuptial music and the traditional wedding marches.  The soloist, Miss Marilyn Duval, Concordia College, St. Paul, Minnesota, sang, “O Promise Me” and “The Lord’s Prayer.”

Church decorations for the wedding included red poinsettias on the altar.  Each pew was trimmed with white satin bows with red poinsettias in the center.

When the bride’s father presented her in marriage she was wearing a white dress of brocaded, satin, featuring a full hoop skirt with long chapel train.  The fitted bodice was trimmed with seed pearls, seed pearls also outlined the neckline and sleeves at the wrists.

A seed pearl crown held her fingertip veil of silk illusion.  The bridal bouquet included red and white carnations centered with red poinsettias.

Miss Becola Bowe, Greenwood, was maid of honor and Miss Kathleen Petke, Minneapolis, and Miss Margaret Bowe of Greenwood, were bridesmaids.  They wore white brocaded satin frocks in street length.  Scoop necklines and three quarter length sleeves accented the fitted bodices.  They wore white fur hats trimmed with pearls and carried white fur muffs which were trimmed with red poinsettias.

Arthur Petke, Jr., Withee was best man and Maynard Bowe and James Hinker, both of Greenwood were groomsmen.  Ted Petke, Withee, and Otto Petke, Waterloo, uncles of the bride, who are also her Godfathers, were ushers.

The wedding reception and dinner for 300 guests were held at the Legion all in Owen with the wedding dance Saturday night at Silver Dome, Neillsville.  Wayne Seefeld of Spencer and his band played for the dance.

One of the highlights of the afternoon was a horse and cutter of yesteryear provided as transportation for the newlyweds immediately after the services.

The bride was graduated in 1962 from Greenwood High School and is also a graduate of Humbolt Institute, Minneapolis, Minn.  She has been working in Loyal.  The bridegroom, a 1959 graduate of Greenwood High School, works for O-W Trindal, Loyal.

After a wedding trip to Chicago and Minneapolis, the Bowe’s will live in Loyal.

Wedding guests were from Johnson Creek, Spencer, Peshtigo, Waterloo, Colby, Stanley, Eau Claire, Chippewa Falls, Fall Creek, Cadott, Strum, Curtiss, Marshfield, Loyal, Greenwood, Owen and Withee.  Out of state guests were from Mt. Prospect, Ill, Arlington Heights, Ill, Minnetonka, Minn., St. Paul, Minn.

Pre-nuptial events included three showers for Miss Petke and Mr. Bowe.  Longwood Town Hall was the scene of a shower held Saturday evening, December 28, Mrs. Kenneth Phillips, Mrs. Victor Jensen, Mrs. Stanley Greschner and Mrs. William Wirtala were hostesses.

Sunday afternoon, December 29, a shower was held at the parlors of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Withee.  Mrs. Julius Rohland, Mrs. Gust Molzan, and Mrs. Larry Fagan of Stanley were hostesses.

Sunday evening, December 29, a shower was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Bowe of Greenwood.  Hostesses were Mrs. N. Friske and Mrs. L. Kronberger.
