Briggs, Raymond W. (1 DEC 1895 - 4 SEP 1965)

Raymond W. Briggs, 69, of Hayward, Wis., a former Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.) resident, passed away Saturday, Sept. 4th, 1965 at Hayward Area Memorial Hospital of a heart attack.

Mr. Briggs was born Dec. 1, 1895 at Baraboo, Wis. He moved to Aniwa in 1901 with his parents, and came to Thorp. On April 5, 1913 he married Hannah Bobb at Owen. In 1935 they moved to Glen Flora and several years later went to Winter. In 1940 they moved to Hayward where he since has resided. They celebrated their golden wedding in 1963.

Funeral services were held at Hansen Funeral Chapel, Marshfield on Wednesday, Sept. 8th. Rev. George Behrens of Klemme, Iowa, officiated at the 1:30 p.m. service, and burial was in the Hillside Cemetery, Marshfield.

Surviving are his wife Hannah, five sons: Wm. Briggs, Bruce, Wis., Harvey Briggs, Franklin Grove, Ill., robert Briggs, Kailu, Oahu, Hawaii, Raymond Briggs, Jr., Ashtabula, Ohio, Lawrence Briggs, Dixon, Ill., five daughters, Mrs. Wilbur (Rae) Duram, Birmingham, Ala., Mrs. Harold (ViEva) Henkel, Minneapolis, Minn., Mrs. Pearl Cairns, Superior, Mrs. Gerald (Dean) Gauger, Marshfield, Mrs. Clyde (Dorothy) Kiddoo, Marshfield, three brothers, Roscoe Butterfield, Hayward, Lester Butterfield, Thorp, Claude Butterfield, Santee, Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. F.M. (Edith) Robinson, San Diego, Calif., Mrs. Lavern (Lillian) Zell, Bellefountain, Ohio, 33 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Mrs. Harvey (Bernice) Zell, July 4, 1965, and 2 brothers and 3 sisters.
