Stephan, Doris J. (Martin) (27 JUN 1917 - 6 FEB 2013)

Doris J. Stephan, 95, Medford, died on Wednesday, Feb. 6 at Deerview Meadows Assisted Living in Medford, where she had resided the past four months, recently under hospice care.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, Feb. 9 at St. Ambrose Episcopal Church in Antigo, with Father Barry Whenal officiating. Interment was at Northside Cemetery in Westboro, with Rev. Bob Giese officiating. Pallbearers were Jenny and Jeremy Voda, Steve and Scott Pipkorn, Megan Peterson and Sadie Brehm.

Hemer Funeral Homes of Medford and Rib Lake assisted the family with arrangements.

The former Doris Martin was born on June 27, 1917 in Medford to the late Florian Joseph and Ruth (Wheeler) Martin. She attended Medford elementary schools, was a graduate of Medford High School, attended Lawrence University of Milwaukee and graduated from Purdue University with a degree in English.

On October 7, 1945 in California, she married Wilbur Valentine Stephan, who preceded her in death in 1995. They moved to Wisconsin and lived in various places before settling in Antigo in 1955 where she worked for the Antigo School District. She also obtained a private pilot's license.

She spent the summer months at the cabin on Mondeaux Flowage in the Town of Westboro.
She was a member of St. Ambrose Episcopal Church, Mondeaux Property Association, DAR, Westboro Conservation Club and Phi Beta Phi. She enjoyed playing bridge, skiing, fishing, her dogs and Packers football.

Survivors include a son, "Marty" of Circle Pines, MN; a daughter, Ruth Ann ("Mick") Pipkorn of Westboro; and two grandsons, Steve (Megan Peterson) Pipkorn and Scott Pipkorn, both of Westboro.
