Rosella E. (Cordes) Bents, age 82, of Cumberland, died Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009 at Luther Hospital in Eau Claire. She was born Oct. 15, 1927, the daughter of William and Wilhelmina (Tiarks) Cordes.

Rose was baptized on Oct. 16, 1927, and confirmed in May 1941, both at Zion Lutheran Church in Almena. On Dec. 30, 1947, Rose married Reinhold A. Bents at Zion Lutheran Church in Almena. Reinhold's father, the Rev. Gerd Bents, officiated at the ceremony. While a teenager, Rose worked at the Ben Franklin Store in Cumberland and the post office in Comstock. Later on, she worked at the Chicken Basket in Hinsdale, Ill.

The couple moved to Menomonie and Rose worked at Halvorsen Brothers Plumbing and Heating while Reinhold attended UW-Stout. They then moved to Racine, Almena, and Minneapolis for various job opportunities. After moving to Eau Claire, Rose took accounting classes at Chippewa Valley Technical College. She worked 18 years for the Eau Claire Board of Education. Upon retirement, Rose and Reinhold moved to Cumberland. Rose was a member of First Lutheran Church in Cumberland and a member of the Esther Circle. Surviving family members include her children, Konrad (Tammy) Bents, Rosanne Bents and Kevin (Diana) Bents; two grandchildren, Adam Bents and Neva Gentleman Bents; and a sister, Malinda Cordes Schilke.

Rose was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one daughter, Ronda Kaye Bents; five brothers, Ditmar, Arnold, Victor, Paul and Marcus Cordes; and two sisters, Christine Cordes Bents and Luella Cordes Berry.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 22, at First Lutheran Church in Cumberland, with Rev. Dr. Mark Bents officiating. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery.

Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. on Saturday at the Skinner Funeral Home in Cumberland and one hour prior to the service at the church.
