J. F. ELLIS, Eau Claire, was born in the town of Jerusalem, Yates Co., N.Y., June 5, 1843. His father, Hernando C. Ellis, came to Wisconsin forty-five years ago, but soon returned to New York. In 1847, he brought his family to Walworth County, residing there a while, and in Columbia County one year. In June, 1855, they located at Rock Creek, Dunn Co., where Mr. Ellis, senior, still resides. J. F. Ellis came to Eau Claire in 1866, and engaged in studying law. He began the practice of that profession in 1870. He was County School Superintendent for two years; is now, and has been for six years, a member of the School Board, and has held several minor offices. He was married in Eau Claire, Oct. 17, 1875, to Cora E. Allen, who was born in Sheboygan. They have one child, Ruth J., born in January, 1880.
