Turenne, John J. (? – 10 September 1980)

John J. Turenne, about 20, Thorp, was killed around 12:40 p.mm. Wednesday, September 10, while working on the Soo Line Railroad Tracks some four miles southeast of Owen. He was an employee of Telewald, Inc., Streator, Illinois, a firm which had contracted to do work for the railroad.

Turenne suffered crushing injuries to the lower part of his body and several puncture wo0unds when he fell beneath a large welding machine and generator which he was operating along the rails.

Authorities learned that he was operating the machine along the track and may have increased the speed instead of reducing it in an effort to stop.

He was working with a brother, Gary, also, of Thorp, and the foreman of the crew, Richard Eloranta, Rt. 1, Owen.

The body was taken to the Thorp Funeral Home.
