Robert A. "Bob" Diers, 77, of Keshena, formerly of Wausau, passed away Thursday, May 8, 2008, in Wausau.

Born April 10, 1931, in Laona, he was the son of the late Arthur and Mildred (Dietzler) Diers. In 1951, Bob enlisted with the United States Army 3rd Infantry Division and served in Korea until 1953. On Oct. 2, 1964, he was united in marriage to Glarus A. Tourtillott in Neopit. Together the couple lived in the Milwaukee area where Bob worked for Wisconsin Bell AT&T until retiring. After his retirement, the couple moved to Wausau where they made their home for 11 years. In 1992, the couple made their final move to the Legend Lake area in Keshena where they lived together until Glarus' death on Dec. 18, 1998. Bob was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Keshena and the Knights of Columbus Council No. 12185. He enjoyed doing acrylic and oil-based portraits and nature scene paintings. He also enjoyed doing wood carvings and working on antique cars. Bob and Glarus enjoyed Sunday afternoon rides through the country and going for pontoon rides.

Bob is survived by four children, Paul Diers of Shawano, Carol (Kevin) Spiegel of Belleville, Theresa Diers and Delores (Kurt Buttke) Diers, all of Wausau; two grandchildren, Alora and Mia; and his faithful dog, Casper. Bob is further survived by one sister, Jean (Tom) Budney of Sheboygan Falls; two nephews, Rich (Angie) Budney of Duluth, Minn., and David Budney of Milwaukee; two brothers-in-law, Wayne (Rosemary) Tourtillott of Minneapolis and Bernard (Josephine) Tourtillott of Keshena; one sister-in-law, Vivian Rants of Ironwood, Mich.; and many other family members and friends.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, May 12, 2008, at St. Michael Catholic Church in Keshena with the Rev. David Barrett officiating. Burial will be in the St. Anthony's Catholic Cemetery in Neopit with military rites by the Menominee American Legion Post No. 497 and the Veterans of the Menominee Nation. Family and friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 a.m. today at the Swedberg Funeral Home in Shawano, and again from 10 a.m. until service time Monday and at the church. Parish wake service will be at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home, followed by a Knight of Columbus Rosary Service at 7:30 p.m.
