STRATFORD -- Ellsworth C. Verch, 81, of Stratford, died Monday, April 21, 2008, at Bethel Center in Arpin.

Arrangements are pending at Sauter/Rembs Funeral Home, Stratford.

STRATFORD -- Ellsworth C. Verch, 81, Stratford, died Monday, April 21, 2008, at Bethel Center in Arpin.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 24, 2008, at Zion Lutheran Church, Stratford, and Pastor Sue Eidahl will officiate. Burial will take place in Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery, Stratford, where military rites will be conducted by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6352 of Stratford.

The visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday at Sauter/Rembs Funeral Home, Stratford, and from 9 a.m. until service time Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church.

Mr. Verch was born July 29, 1926, in Stratford to Albert L. and Lena (Gorr) Verch. He attended Stratford schools. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II and re-enlisted, serving twice.

Ellsworth had been employed at Rollohome Corp., Marshfield, for many years and later at Stratford Homes. He also had worked at Equity Livestock, Stratford, until his retirement. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and watching the birds and squirrels.

He is survived by three sons and a daughter, Michael P. (Judith) Verch of Marshfield, Mary (Bob) Kopitar of Stratford, Bill Verch of Marshfield and Jack (Joyce) Verch of Pennock, Minn. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his parents; his wife; a son, James Robert; three brothers and two sisters.
