STRATFORD -- Genevieve M. "Genny" Grassl, 81, of Stratford died Wednesday, May 14, 2008, at Saint Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Stratford.

The visitation will be held from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. Sunday at Sauter/Rembs Funeral Home, Stratford and from 10 a.m. until service time Monday at the church.

STRATFORD -- Genevieve M. “Genny” Grassl, 81, of Stratford died Wednesday, May 14, 2008 at Saint Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday, May 19, 2008, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Stratford. The Rev. Thomas Rudolph will officiate, and music will be provided by St. Joseph's Resurrection Choir and St. Andrew's Folk Choir.

Burial will take place in St. Joseph's Cemetery, town of Eau Pleine, and grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

The visitation will be held from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. Sunday at Sauter/Rembs Funeral Home, Stratford, and from 10 a.m. until service time Monday at the church.

Mrs. Grassl was born Jan. 18, 1927, in Marshfield to Joseph and Isabel (Laessig) Bauer. She was a graduate of Stratford High School. She and Peter R. Grassl were united in marriage Oct. 9, 1948, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. He died March 7, 2002.

Before her marriage, Genny had been employed at the Stratford Telephone Company. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, the Parish Council of Catholic Women, of which she served as past president, the Stratford Branch Library Board, where she was instrumental in building the new library, and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary of Stratford. She had been a former C.C.D. teacher and Girl Scout leader.

She enjoyed reading, sewing, gardening and her book club and card club. She also enjoyed attending her children's and grandchildren's sporting events and especially enjoyed spending time with her family.

She is survived by seven children, Susan (Bill) Knetter of Edgar, Alan (Linda) Grassl of Butternut, Patty (Jim) Weichelt of Stratford, Margie (Warren) Austin of the town of Green Valley, Mark (Linda) Grassl of Waunakee, Joyce (Bob) Young of Lakeville, Minn., and Jeannie (Steve) Algren of Burnsville, Minn. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren, Paul and Dan Knetter, Pam (Jim) McCauley, Diane (Mike) Griswold, Donna (Mark) Riemer, Peter Grassl, Lukas Weichelt, Bryan (Stacey) Weichelt, Jeremy (Heather) Austin, Marcus, Amy and Caroline Grassl, Alyssa, Katie and Ben Young, and Jeff, Rachel and Jake Algren. She is further survived by seven great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her parents; her husband; a son Peter III in infancy; and a sister, Audrey Schmitz.
