Fred Schwantes, 76, of Spencer, died early this morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Albert Toltzman, in the Town of Unity, as the result of a bladder ailment. He had been living with his daughter for the past several weeks.

Last rites will be conducted Friday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock at the residence in Spencer, and at 2 o’clock at the Trinity Lutheran Church there. The Rev. A. C. Stapel will officiate.

The body will lie in state at the Central Wisconsin Co-operative Funeral Home until about 10 o’clock Friday morning, when it will be moved to the home at Spencer. Burial will be made in the family lot in the North Spencer Cemetery. Mr. Schwantes was born March 22, 1866 in Germany, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Schwantes, and came to this country with his parents when seven years old. The family lived at Iron Ridge for several years before moving to Clark County, where he attended school.

In October, 1894, he was married in Marshfield. He moved to the Town of Brighton where he spent 28 years before moving to the village of Spencer, where he had lived the past 10 years. Survivors include his daughter, Mrs. Albert Toltzman; three sisters, Mrs. Martha Rindfleisch, Anna Manthe, both of the Town of Brighton; Mrs. Louise Rindfleisch, Jefferson; two brothers, Herman, Brighton; and Charles, Duluth, Minn.; and four grandchildren.

His wife died six years ago, and a brother and a sister also preceded him in death.
