Smith, Lloyd Roger (3 Oct. 1939 - 5 Apr. 2008)

Lloyd Roger Smith, Jr., age 68, formerly of Green Lake, WI, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 5, 2008, at the home of his brother after a short battle with cancer.

Lloyd was born on October 3, 1939, in Spencer, WI, the son of Lloyd Sr. and Marcella (Mellenthin) Smith. He attended school in Columbus, WI, and then completed his education upon his enlistment in the U.S. Air Force. Lloyd proudly served from 1956-1960 as an active duty jet mechanic, then continued to serve his country an additional 2 years in the U.S. Air Force inactive reserves. He worked as a welder for a construction company, and also as a truck driver for several freight companies. Lloyd enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He especially liked spending time on his golf cart when visiting his friends in Florida. Lloyd was a past member of the Steelworkers Union.

Survivors include his son, Matthew Smith of Princeton; two grandchildren; Cody Smith and Kathleen Smith; two daughters, Julie (Tom) Bowker of Wentzville, MO, and Christine Smith of Lakeland, FL; and the mother of his children, Patricia Hess. Lloyd is also survived by his mother, Marcella Smith; three brothers, Jerrold (MaryJo) Smith of Ripon, LeRoy Smith of Plainfield, and Howard Smith of Ripon; sister, Joann (John) Strandell of Ripon; and many other relatives and friends. Lloyd was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Susan; his father, Lloyd Sr.; sister, Marjorie Szopinski; and stepfather, Les Zimmerman.

Visitation for Lloyd R. Smith, Jr. will be from 11:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. on Friday, April 11, 2008, at the Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home in Ripon. Memorial service for Lloyd R. Smith, Jr. will be at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, April 11, 2008, at the Butzin-Marchant Funeral Home. The service will be guided in God’s grace by Lloyd’s sister, Joann Strandell, with full Military Honors to follow. A memorial has been established.
