Bealer, Raymond (3 September 1919 – 6 November 1985) With Flag
Graveside services were held Wednesday, November 6, at Yolo Cemetery for Raymond
Bealer, 66, of Phoenix, Arizona. Rev. Calvin Carey, of United Methodist Church,
Chili, officiated.
Mr. Bealer died on Saturday, November 2, at the Phoenix Nursing and Convalescent
Home. He was born September 3, 1919, in the Town of Fremont, to Paul and Louise
Bealer. After his education, he served in World War II. His main occupation had
been mining for gold and minerals in several different parts of the country.
Surviving are his brother, Oscar, and sister, Mrs. Lena Barth, both of Chili.
Predeceasing him were his parents, four brothers, and a sister.

Church, George R. (27 May 1900 – 21 October 1985)
Rural Neillsville resident, George R. Church, 85, passed away Monday, October
21, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield, following a lengthy illness.
Services were held Thursday, October 24, at Gesche Funeral, Home, Neillsville.
Lori Anding and Betty Schultz provided music. Rev. Norbert Miller, of Christie
United Methodist Church, officiated and interment was in the Neillsville City
Cemetery. Pallbearers were Kevin Syth, West Stieglitz, Bill Hilker, Brian
Ewoldt, Peter and Patrick Opelt.
Mr. Church was born May 27, 1900, at Valcour Island, New York, the son of Wales
and Kate (Everet) Church. As a young boy he moved, with his parents, to the
Clark County area. Educated at the Church School in the Town of Foster, he then
received diesel mechanic training in St. Louis, Missouri. Returning to
Neillsville, he was employed by the Clark County Highway Department. On November
25, 1926, he married Leah K. Wildish, at Waukegan, Illinois. She preceded him
November 18, 1982.
Retiring from the highway department in 1965, he continued to reside in the Town
of Pine Valley until three years ago. At that time he made his home with his
daughter, at Rt. 1 Greenwood.
Survivors include two children, Eugene Church, West Allis, and Mrs. Donald
(Virginia “Sue”) Opelt, Greenwood; two sisters, Laura Makensen, Scottsdale,
Arizona, and Mrs. Don (Hazel) Beyer, Hamburg, New York; a brother, Ellis Church,
Dade City, Florida; ten grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Preceding
him in death were his parents; his wife; an infant daughter; and two sisters,
Florence and Delia.

Dekker, Hazel L. (4 March 1905 – 12 October 1985)
Hazel L Dekker, of 7 State Street, passed away October 12 at Neillsville
Memorial Hospital. She was born March 4, 1905, In Iowa.
She and her husband James, who has preceded her in death, owned and operated
Dekker’s Service Station until 1974. Mrs. Dekker was a member of the Neillsville
United Church of Christ, and a past member of the United Church of Christ,
Rhinelander; held membership in the Mabel Chapter of the Eastern Star; and was a
past guardian of Bethel 29, Job’s Daughters.
Rev. David Michael officiated at services held Wednesday, October 16, at First
Congregational Church, Rhinelander. Burial was in Forest Home Cemetery.
Surviving are two sons, Edward, Cincinnati, Ohio, and James, Rhinelander; three
daughters, Mrs. Richard (Marian) Timm, Rhinelander, Mrs. Warren (Lois) Lawonn,
Three Lakes, and Ms. Donna Dekker, Neillsville; twenty grandchildren; eighteen
great grandchildren; two brothers, Harold Campbell, Watertown, South Dakota, and
Harry Campbell, Garden City, South Dakota; one sister, Mrs. Edna Mueller, Hemet,
California.

Gerber, Brenda Ann (22 August 1985 – 27 October 1985)
Two month old Brenda Ann Gerber, daughter of former Alma Center residents Dean
and Pamela (Mageland) Gerber, died Sunday, October 27, at Fort Polk, Louisiana.
Her death was attributed to Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.
Brenda was born, August 22, 1985, at Black River Memorial Hospital.
Surviving the child besides her parents are maternal grandparents Jareld and
Anne Mageland, Alma Center; paternal grandparents Walt and Patricia Gerber,
Humbird; and several aunts and uncles.
Services were held Friday, November 1, at Grace Lutheran Church, Alma Center.
Reverend Donald Neuendorf officiated. Burial was in the Town of Mentor Cemetery,
at Humbird. The Jensen Funeral Home, Hixton, was in charge of the arrangements.

Grottke, Lydia (1 September 1895 – 27 October 1985)
Lydia Grottke, a resident of Neillsville Memorial Home, died Sunday, October 27,
at the age of ninety.
The former Lydia Pushek was born September 1, 1895, at Provisco, Illinois.
Following her education at Brookfield, Illinois, she married Fred Grottke, in
Granton, on March 24, 1915. They moved to a farm in the Town of Lynn, and she
resided there until entering Memorial Home. Her husband preceded her in death on
July 8, 1971.
Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. John (Dorothy) Engelsman, Maywood, Illinois;
Mrs. Gertrude Wilson, Chicago; Mrs. Chapman (Ethel) Paulson, Las Cruces, New
Mexico; Mrs. Joseph (Ruth) Fail, Berwyn, Illinois; a son, Louis, Marshfield;
eight grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren; a brother, Ernest Pushek,
Neillsville Memorial Home; and a sister, Mrs. Alma Carey, Batavia, Illinois. One
brother preceded her in death.
Visitation was Tuesday, at Gilbertson Funeral Home, Granton. Rev. E.T. Keller
officiated at funeral services Wednesday, October 30, at Zion Lutheran Church,
Granton, and burial was in the church cemetery. Organist was Jeanette Steiner.
Pallbearers were Henry and David Grottke, Robert Spiegelberg, Ray Engelman,
Richard Kuenstler, and William Pushek.

Hagen, William L. (13 October 1914 – 22 October 1985)
Rev. Richard F. Weber officiated at memorial services held Friday, October 25,
at Gesche Funeral Home, Neillsville, for William L. Hagen, 71, 2218 Black River
Road. Mr. Hagen died Tuesday, October 22, after a lingering illness. His ashes
will be interred in the Neillsville City Cemetery at a later date.
Born in Jackson County on October 13, 1914, he was the son of John and Maud
(Sage) Hagen. After his education he worked on farms in the Black River Falls
area, and at the CCC Camp. Moving to Neillsville, he was employed by the City of
Neillsville and also worked construction for several years. Later, until his
retirement in 1977, he was a nineteen year employee of Nelson Muffler. On
November 5, 1938, he married Velda L. Seelow, at Neillsville. She survives him.
Other surviving family members include five children, Eugene, of Lake Elmo,
Minnesota; Mrs. Darryl (Sylvia) Dayton, Neillsville; Leslie Hagen, Loyal;
William R., Stoughton; and Karen Hagen, Shoreview, Minnesota; five grandchildren
and one great grandchild.
He was predeceased by his parents, a brother, John; five sisters, Alice,
Isabella, Stella, Sophie, and Florence; a stepsister Jennie and stepbrother,
Herman.

Heimstead, Douglas R. (25 March 1947 – 5 November 1985) With Flag
Douglas R. Heimstead, 38, of 620 Hewett, passed away Tuesday, November 5, in the
Town of Pine Valley.
The son of Leland P. and Mary A. (Gilson) Heimstead, he was born March 25, 1947,
at Sparta. While a young boy, his family moved to Neillsville and he was
educated at St. John’s Lutheran School, Neillsville Public Schools, and
graduated in 1966 from Neillsville High School.
Entering the United States Army on October 6, 1966, he served in Viet Nam, for
which he received the Viet Nam Service Medal with Two Bronze Stars, and the Viet
Nam Republic Campaign Medal. He was discharged October 4, 1968.
Returning to Neillsville, he was employed by NEFCO Filter for a few years. On
October 31, 1970, he married Estelle M. Rand, at Neillsville. From 1973 until
the time of his death, he was the owner-operator of The Other Place Tavern, in
Neillsville. Mr. Heimstead held membership in the Wilson-Heinz V.F.W. Post 2241,
Neillsville.
Surviving are four daughters, Shannon, Denise, Heidi and Angel, all at home; his
mother, Mrs. Mary Heimstead, Neillsville; two brothers, Theodore, Elk Mound, and
Gary, Oregon, Illinois; and a sister, Nita Heimstead, Marshfield. His father
preceded him in death.
Gesche Funeral Home handled arrangements and visitation was Thursday evening and
Friday morning until time of the service. Rev. Paul Forde officiated at rites
held Friday, November 8, at Calvary Lutheran Church. Graveside military rites
accompanied burial at Warren Mills Cemetery, Warrens, Wisconsin. Friends served
as pallbearers.

Kleinschmidt, Cleo (28 December 1902 – 4 November 1985)
Cleo Kleinschmidt died Monday, November 4, at Sunny Vale Nursing Home, Wausau.
Funeral services were held November 6 at St. Stephens Lutheran Church, with
interment at the Town of Lynn Cemetery.
The former Cleo Godard was born to Carrie and Milton Godard on December 28,
1902, in Iowa. She married Arthur Kleinschmidt June 22, 1925, in Lynn. They
farmed in the Town of Lynn until May 1953, when they moved to Wausau.
Surviving are her husband, Arthur, 1320 Grand Avenue, apt. 102, Wausau; a son,
Arvin, Wis. Rapids; two daughters, Elaine Todd, Chili; Mrs. Patrick (La Veda)
Bobicky, Schofield; thirteen grandchildren and two great granddaughters. She is
predeceased by one daughter, one son, one granddaughter, two sisters, and two
brothers.

Mosby, John F. (21 September 1912 – 2 November 1985) With Flag
John F. Mosby, 73, of Springfield, Illinois, died at his residence Saturday,
November 2. He was born in Mount Vernon, Missouri, September 21, 1912, the son
of Abraham and Rosa Mosby.
Mr. Mosby served in World War II and the Korean War. He entered the U.S. Navy in
San Francisco in 1937 and retired in 1966 at Great Lakes, Illinois. After his
retirement from service, he was associated with Argonne National Laboratory at
Argonne, Illinois. At the time of his death, he was employed by the Illinois
National Bank of Springfield, Illinois.
He was a member of Clementine Presbyterian Church, Masonic Lodge in Mount
Vernon, Missouri, and the Fleet Reserve Association.
Surviving are his wife, Kathryn (Winn); one son, Rand, and one daughter, Beth
Shetter, both of Springfield, Illinois; three sisters, Helen Southard, of
Henderson, Kentucky, Irene Weems, of Springfield, Missouri; and Miss Doris
Mosby, of Joplin, Missouri. He was the son-in-law of the late Mr. and Mrs. F. E.
Winn, of Granton.
Remains were cremated and memorial services were held Wednesday, November 6, at
the Clementine Presbyterian Church with Rev. Milton Mosbacher and the Rev.
Eugene Bilotti officiating. Burial was made at Camp Butler National Cemetery.

Olson, Arleigh M. (6 October 1913 – 29 October 1985)
Arleigh M. Olson, 72, of Blanchardville, passed away on Tuesday, October 29, at
Methodist Hospital in Madison. He had been ill for the past month.
Born in Blanchardville on October 6, 1913, he was the son of Elmer and Maria
(Erickson) Olson. Attending school in Blanchardville, he graduated from
Greenwood High School. On September 28, 1935, at Decorah, Iowa, he married Eva
Verna Miller. They lived in Greenwood for one year, then moved to
Blanchardville. He worked at the Erickson Feed Mill there, and did general
construction, trucking and operated the Olson Sand & Gravel business for many
years His wife, Eva, passed away in 1976.
He held membership in the Blanchardville Lutheran Church, was a former member of
the Blanchardville Fire Department, the Lions Club, the Village Board, and a
former police officer.
Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Christian (Deanna) Torn, of Blanchardville;
Arlene Prost, of Los Angeles, California; Mrs. Dale (Nancy) Anderson, of Fort
Atkinson; Mrs. Dennis (Kristine) Marty, and Mrs. Karen Ingwell, both of
Blanchardville; a sister, Mrs. Gene (Elaine) Rockow, of Winslow, Illinois; and
15 grandchildren and one great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Floyd, his wife, Eva, and a
daughter, Mrs. Olson (Patricia) Mandsager.
Services were held Saturday, November 2 at Blanchardville Lutheran Church. Rev.
Wayne Henderson officiated. Burial was made in Adams Lutheran Cemetery.
Attending the funeral from Greenwood were (relatives) Mrs. Erna Wehrman, Mrs.
Anita Heck and the latter’s son, Bruce Miller, of Stevens Point.
