Schwantes, Lother (2 Jan. 1909 - 17 Oct. 1987)

EDGAR - Lother Schwantes, 78, Edgar, died Saturday at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Marshfield.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Kraemer Funeral Home, Edgar. A Mass of Concelebration will be at 3 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Edgar. Concelebrants will be the Rev. James Johnson and the Rev. Delbert Malin. Burial will be in the parish cemetery.

Visitation will be after 7 p.m. today at the funeral home and again Tuesday from 11 a.m. until service time. The Knights of Columbus rosary will be at 7:30 p.m. today followed by a parish Bible vigil at 8.

He was born Jan. 2, 1909, in Spencer to Frederick and Ida Schwantes. He married Eleanore Mathieson in Edgar Dec. 30, 1933. She survives.

He was employed as a salesman for Edgar Bottling and Ice Cream Co., and also worked part-time at Ken and Dick’s United Foods for many years before retiring in 1978.

He was an original member of the 1949 committee to start the annual Edgar Homecoming celebration.

He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, United Commercial Traveler’s of America Council 189, and the Holy Name Society of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church.

Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Mary C. Schafer of Minneapolis; a son, Alan of Wausau; four sisters, Mrs. Frances Trierweiler, Mrs. Edna Seehafer, and Mrs. LeRoy (Marian) Seidl, all of Marshfield; and Mrs. Nora Hanson of Brillion; and three grandchildren.

He was predeceased by two brothers, Eldor and Frederick.
