Bergs, Loretta A. (17 Oct. 1920 - 9 Mar. 2004)

Loretta A. Bergs, 83, 1206 N. 16th Ave., Wausau, died Tuesday, March 9, 2004, after a year-long struggle with cancer under the care of Comfort Care and Hospice Services at Hospice House.

She was born Oct. 17, 1920, in the town of Cassel, daughter of the late Frank Jr. and Anna (Paszek) Kordus. On Aug. 2, 1939, Loretta married Sylvester P. Bergs in Cassel. He survives.

Loretta retired from the Wausau School System as a library assistant. She was a founding member of The Church of St. Anne and an active member of its Fatima Council. She also spent several years in the Ministry to the Sick and recently the RCIA process. Loretta was one of the first cooks for the Friday Lenten Fish Fries in the parish.

Loretta will be remembered for how she blessed and enriched the lives of others through her strong faith and personal relationship with our Lord.

She cherished her family, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and enjoyed being involved in their activities. Loretta was an avid outdoor gardener of vegetables and flowers, especially roses and African violets. Her other hobbies were knitting, sewing, quilting, golfing, card playing, fishing, traveling and baking. "Mom, we all will miss your famous Squash Lake Cake!"

Besides her husband, Sylvester "Sy" Bergs, Wausau, survivors include four daughters, Charlotte (Dick) Boehmer, Schofield, Shirley (Dan) Gajewski, Irma, Ann (Larry) Meyer, Wausau, and Mary (Scott) Bergs-Cruse, Minneapolis; one son, Thomas Bergs, Tomahawk; seven grandchildren, Andy and Toby Boehmer, Jenny John, Dr. Christy Gajewski, Rikki, Charley and Mollee Bergs; four great-grandchildren, Hailey, Carissa and Cody Boehmer, and Braden John; and two sisters, Delores (Norbert) Bergs, Marathon, and Virginia Szudajski, Menomonee Falls. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by one sister, Lucille Wichlacz, and three brothers, Gerald, Donald and Fabian Kordus.

The funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, March 12, 2004, at Church of St. Anne, Wausau. The Rev. Steven Brice and the Rev. Joseph Rafacz will concelebrate. Entombment will be in Memorial Chapel Mausoleum at Restlawn Memorial Park, Wausau. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today and Friday from 10 a.m. until service time, all at Church of St. Anne.

Peterson/Kraemer Funeral Home, 3400 Stewart Ave., Wausau, is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to The Church of St. Anne.
