Gerlach, August (1854 – 23 Aug. 1935)

Milan, Wisconsin – Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Lutheran church here for August Gerlach, 81, a retired farmer, who died Friday afternoon of bronchial pneumonia. Mr. Gerlach, who has been a resident of Milan for about 32 years, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Fred Blanke.

Rev. J. Brandt officiated at the funeral services. Pallbearers were Fred Bahr, Emil Hoffmann, Emil Schade, James Soucek, Albert Bradow and Albert Hoeft.

August Gerlach was born in 1854 at Konigsburg, Germany. He came to America at five years of age and settled in Waukesha, where he lived for 18 years before coming to Milan. His wife preceded him in death about 21 years ago.

Mr. Gerlach is survived by two sons, Adolph of Milan, Otto of Minneapolis; four daughters, Mrs. Alfred Thoms, Milwaukee; Mrs. Wm. Wright, Waukesha; Mrs. Charles Bluemphe, Milwaukee; Mrs. Fred Blanke, Milan; and nine grandchildren.
