Wanta, Eugene W. (October 26, 1936 - December 30, 2008)

Eugene W. Wanta, 72, Weston, died Tuesday, Dec. 30.

Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 5 at Brainard Funeral Home-Everest Chapel in Weston, with Rev. Janusz Kowalski officiating. Entombment was at Memorial Chapel Mausoleum at Restlawn Memorial Park in Wausau.

Eugene Wanta was born October 26, 1936 in Wausau to the late Edmond and Esther (Zielisch) Wanta.

On December 21, 1984 in Wausau, he married Donna Shamberg, who survives. He was a United States Army veteran, worked for Drott Manufacturing and retired from J.I. Case Company.

He was a member of the Crazy Cottage Collectors, Wishigan Collectors, the NRA, and was a volunteer at Aspirus Wausau Hospital. He was a Packers fan, enjoyed cooking, deer and turkey hunting, traveling, spending time at the cottage and the companionship of his dogs.

In addition to his wife, survivors include a daughter, Stephanie (Mike) Neely of Alpharetta, Ga.; two sons, Kevin (Maria) of Mesa, Ariz. and Brett of Green Isle, Minn.; three brothers, Richard (Marge) of Tomahawk, Frank (Betty) of Wausau and Roger of Weston; and seven grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Elaine Gray and Mary Ann Wanta; and a brother, Lee.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Therese Parish or Marathon County Humane Society.
