Leonhard, Dorothy (4 Sept. 1924 – 12 Jan. 2009)

Dorothy Leonhard (nee Jewett), 84, took her savior's hand on Jan. 12, 2009, at the Saint Joseph's Hospital Palliative Care Unit, with her family by her side. Visitation will be at the Maurina Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford on Friday, Jan. 17, 2009, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday, Jan. 17, 2009, from 10 a.m. until the time of service at Trinity Lutheran Church in Unity. Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. The Rev. Dale Wolfert will officiate. Burial will be private at the town of Brighton Cemetery.

On Sept. 4, 1924, Dorothy was born to Wesley and Amy Jewett (Sheldon) in the town of Brighton. She married Ralph Leonhard on Sept. 4, 1941. For 21 years, Dorothy was employed at Saint Joseph's Hospital in the laundry department. She took pride in her family's heritage in building covered bridges across the U.S. Above all, her most cherished possession was her family.

Dorothy is survived by her children, Ronald (Leanne) Leonhard of Unity, Gary Leonhard of Unity, Jan (Dale) Block of Unity, Cathy (Kerry) Steinmetz of Marshfield, Greg (Jody) Leonhard of Marshfield. She was a proud grandma of 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She also is survived by one brother, Ervin Jewett of Marshfield. She is preceded in death by her husband, an infant daughter, Dorothy Leonhard, and her two sisters, Merle and Norma.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, 2009, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Unity. Burial will be private in the town of Brighton Cemetery.
