William Peter Schroeder (23 Feb 1881 - 22 Nov 1957)

Funeral rites for William Schroeder, 76, who died Nov. 22, were held Monday (25 Nov 1957) from Peace Evangelical church here (Dorchester, Clark Co., WI). The Rev. Fred W. Kollath, pastor, officiated at the l:30 p. m. services during which Mrs. Frank Rauscher, Mrs. John Mueller and Mrs. Lloyd Carlson sang "Under His Wings" and "God Will Take Care of You" Mrs. Jerome Rankl was organist.

Burial was in the Peace cemetery under the direction of Fuchsgruber Funeral Service which had charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were Donald Wolf, Donald Harder, Melvin Schumacher, Cletus Weber, Marvin Tauchen, Robert Schumacher, Walter Seidel, and Rudolph Tauchen.

Mr. Schroeder died in his sleep during the early morning hours of Friday, with his death discovered about 7:30 p. m. that day. He had been to see a doctor within recent days because of a slight discomfort, and his physician attributed death to a cardiac condition complicated by influenza. He had been well enough on Wednesday, however, to visit his granddaughter Arlene (Mrs. George Rau) on her birthday that evening.

William Peter Schroeder was born Feb. 23, 1881, on the farm in the town of Mayville 1½ miles north of the village, where he spent his entire life. He was married to Emma Braun here on May 2, 1906, and operated the farm with his mother some years after his father's death, then, buying the place. He operated it until selling to his son Albert about 10 years ago, continuing to reside there, although not actively engaged in farming. He was a long-time member of the Peace church. Mrs. Schroeder died May 11, 1950.

Surviving are a daughter Mrs. Vincent (Anna) Tauchen of this community; two sons, Henry at Woodstock, Ill., and Albert on the home farm; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren, and a sister (obituary cut off at this point).
