Oscar L. Schrader (12 Dec 1872 - 10 Jan 1951)

The Rev. F. R. Sprengler, pastor officiated at funeral services in St. Peter's Lutheran church at 2 p. m. Friday (19 Jan 1951) for Oscar L. Schrader, 78, who died Jan. 10 at the home of his son Arthur. Burial was in Dorchester Memorial cemetery, and pallbearers were Marvin Schrader, Dorchester; Jerry Schwartztrauber, Ladysmith; Marvin Sherette, Park FallS; Harold Shanklin, Amherst Junction; August Hemling, Dalton, and Robert Winget, Colgate. Fuchsgruber Funera1 Service had charge of arrangements.

Oscar L. Schader was, born in Germany on Dec. 12, 1872, and at the age of nine months was brought to this country by his parents. The family settled first at Centerville, and then moved to the Athens community for a short time before moving to the southern part of the Town of Johnson, about 15 miles southeast of here, where he grew to manhood. He purchased the original 40 acre farm on Highway 13 where his son Arthur now resides (town of Mayville, Clark Co., WI), 54 years ago and developed it into productive enterprise. He resided there since the time of purchase. On Nov. 27, 1898, he and Wilhelmine Lueddecke were married and to the union were born nine children, seven of whom survive. Mr. Schrader was a charter member of St. Peter's Lutheran church, and had always taken an active part in its affairs. He retired from farming about five years ago when Arthur purchased the farm.

Surviving are three sons and four daughters: Otto Schrader, Park Falls; Mrs. Earl (Anna) Schwartztrauber, Ladysmith; Mrs. Charles (Lydia) Shanklin, Amherst Junction; Mrs. Otto (Odelia) Hemling, Dalton; Mrs. Willard (Hilda) Rau, Colgate; Arthur Schrader, Dorchester, and Arnold Schrader, Columbus; 15 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. Rosina Marquardt, Wausau. Mrs. Schrader and two children preceded him in death, as did three sisters and two brothers.
