Kobs, Mr. and Mrs. William (Gold - 1949)


Mr. and Mrs. William Kobs celebrated their golden wedding anniversary, Tuesday, October 18th on the farm where they resided for 40 years, and now occupied by their son, Willard Kobs, and family. A noon dinner was served in the dining hall of the Trinity Lutheran church to 52 relatives and friends. A large three-tiered wedding cake served as a centerpiece. Open house was held from 3 to 5 o’clock when guests called to extend congratulations. Supper was served to 74 guests.

Mr. and Mrs. Kobs were married October 18, 1899 at St. John’s Lutheran Church about 2 miles north of here by the Rev. Mr. Imm. They were attended by Mr. and Mrs. Robert Voelker, who were present at the anniversary. Mrs. Voelker is the former Miss Ella Bruesewitz. Other attendants were Mrs. Ida Schroeder and Edward Kobs, both deceased.

Five of their children were present for the celebration. Those present were Mrs. Leo (LaVern) Crane, Pasadena, Calif., Mrs. Russ (Edna) Gibbs, Medford, Martin Kobs, Marshfield, and Dan and Willard Kobs, Spencer. A son, Ervin died two years ago.

Mr. Kobs, son of the late August and Hanna Kobs was born in Fond du Lac, December 5, 1876, and came here with his parents when he was a young boy and resided on the farm now owned by Fred Bruesewitz. Mrs. Kobs, daughter of the late August and Minnie Voelker, was born on June 23, 1880 in Spencer on the farm formerly owned by John Voelker. Both attended Spencer schools.

They resided in Merrill for two years and came to Spencer in 1902 and lived on the farm where their son, Willard now resided. In 1942 they retired and moved to the village where they still live.

Mr. Kobs served as Treasurer of the town for 13 years and treasurer of the John Holzschuh cheese factory for 23 years. Mr. Kobs has two sisters while Mrs Kobs has eight brothers and sisters, sevenof whom were present for the anniversary.

Mrs. Kobs was attired in a plum colored gown with a corsage of gold mums and daisies.

Guests included Mr. and Mrs. John Beader, Mrs. John Anderson, Paige, N. Dak.; Mr. and Mrs. Walter Beader, Hope, N. D.; Mr. and Mrs. Carles Voelker, Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Marten, Fremont; Mrs. Leo Crane, Pasadena, Calif.; The Rev. and Mrs. A. C. Stapel, Naugart; Mr. and Mrs. Paul Luedtke, Wausau; Mrs. Lydia Schulze, Cedarburg; Mrs. Rose Gersdorf, Mankato, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Martin Kobs, Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Paasch, Marshfield, and Mr. and Mrs. Russ Giggs and Maureen, Medford. Many relatives and friends form Spencer and vicinity also attended the celebration.

The Record joins their many local friends in extending congratulations and best wishes for many more years of happy wedded life together.
