Ponomarenko, Maria (Marriage - 5 July 1969)

Miss Maria Ponomarenko of Stevens Point, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wasyl Ponomarenko of Rt. 1 Neillsville, and Michael J. Bubla, son of Mr. and Mrs,. Mike Bubla, Jr. of Wisconsin Rapids, were united in marriage Saturday afternoon in Our lady Queen of Heaven Church, with Father Stanchik officiating. Nuptial organ music was provided by Gary Ladick.

Mr. Ponomarenko gave his daughter in marriage. The bride selected a floor-length train. The bodice featured a yoke styled with a Venice lace and a jeweled neckline embroidered with pearls. Her long lace sleeves tapered to points over the wrists, where they were secured with tiny covered buttons. Her skirt was studded with lace floral appliqués, embroidered with pearls and lace floral motifs at the hemline, and extending around the hem of the train. She wore a nylon illusion elbow-length veil secured to an organza and Venice lace floral spray headpiece. Her organza roses were centered with pearl spikes and the Venice motifs were studded with crystals and pearls. She carried a cascade bouquet of red roses and stephanotis with fern and ivy.

Maid-of-honor was Miss Karen Boh of Willard. Bridesmaids were: Mrs. Dennis Correll of Marquette, Mich., Miss Linda Peterson of Wittenberg, Miss Betty Bubla and Miss Pat Bubla, Boh of Wisconsin Rapids. They were attired in floor-length gowns of chiffon over taffeta in yellow, orchid, mint green, pink, and blue, in that order. Each bodice featured a scoop neckline and elbow-length, puff sleeves. Their Venice lace and chiffon trimmed empire waistlines flowed into A-line and full backs. A redingote effect of chiffon completed each dress. Their short bouffant veils flowed from open crown pillboxes of organza, accented with dainty flowers and seed pearls. They carried cascade bouquets of ivy and carnations tinted to match each gown.

Thomas Sparhawk of Wisconsin Rapids served as bestman. Groomsmen were John Muten of Cudahy, Delbert Deitzler of St. Louis, Mo., William Schroeder of Wisconsin Rapids and Andy Ponomarenko of Neillsville. Ushers were Terry Martindale and Gregory Repa of Chicago, Ill.

A reception, supper and dance were held at the Lion’s club.

The bride is a senior at Wisconsin State University-Stevens Point, where she is majoring in art education. She is employed in the office of the president of the University. The groom, a graduate of Wisconsin State University-Stevens Point, holds a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education, and will be working on his master’s degree in the fall. He plans to teach 6th grade at Roosevelt School in Plover in the fall.

On their return from a wedding trip, Mr. and Mrs. Bubla will reside in Stevens Point.
